Motspur Park Removals
We undertake large home and office removals in and around Motspur Park and smaller moves, if required with our Man & Van service. If you already live in or around Motspur Park, the following is unlikely to be news to you, but if you are moving to the area you may find some of this of interest.
Motspur Park owes its identity to the railway station of the same name, opened in 1925, which has six trains an hour to London Waterloo, and to the adjacent parade of small shops. Three prominent gas holders, which were used to store the consumer gas supply for south-west London, stand just south of the shopping parade and can be seen from a wide area.
The addition of Park to the name was a marketing initiative, especially by house builders as a way of attracting rich individuals away from central London to a more pleasant commuter suburb.
In 1928 the University of London built the Motspur Park athletics stadium. The stadium achieved fame when the world mile record was set there on August 28th1937 by Mighty Atom Sydney Wooderson with a time of 4 minutes 6.4 seconds, a record which he held for 5 years.
In 1999 the stadium was sold to Fulham Football Club as their training ground. Since then, it has grown into a state-of-the-art sporting facility and the central location for around 200 members of the Fulham staff. The cinder track used by athletes eighty years ago is long gone.
In 1993 Blossom House, a specialist independent day school for children with speech, language and communication difficulties moved to Motspur Park from Wimbledon and in 2015 to larger premises in Station Road.
